Happy New Years - Raising The Bar

Friday, December 31, 2010

I Just finished reading Raising the Bar: Integrity and Passion in Life and Business: The Story of Clif Bar & Co. by Gary Erickson. It is a great read about ethical business practices, sustainability, and plenty of outdoor adventure stories that parallel and relate to the rapid rise of his innovative company. It is a good life manual as much as it is a biz book and I highly recommend it.

In the book he tells the story of his Epiphany Ride... a 175 mile journey where the ah ah moment (while bonking) to create a better energy bar hit him.

He also tells passionately the story of the white road, which is basically ...The road where the journey is as important as the destination and in which the focus is on more than just getting from point A to point B. The white road is the road less traveled, it is the road of innovation and going down the road means accepting the unknown and being able to react quickly to what ever adventure comes your way. The white road is filled with the nuggets of life that are not listed in the tourist books, and in order to reap its rewards you have to travel light, be smart, aware and be committed to your decisions and actions.

May 2011 be filled with your own Epiphany rides on White Roads. Happy New Year!

Go get the book!
